New cost-effective and sustainable polyethylene based carbon fibres for volume market applications

Newspec aims at the production of carbon fibres (CF) through very promising low-cost sustainable polyethylene (PE) precursors. PE can be derived from three independent sources: bio-ethanol, synthetic oil and recycled plastics. A main attribute of this project is the use of an available pilot scale facility that allows design and optilization of continuous CF processing and, at a later date, easy scale up to a larger industrial size plant.  The partners will also explore the possibility of surface modification via atmospheric plasma techniques and room-temperature grafting with specific surface-attacking chemicals.

Networking action. Boosting collaboration between research centres and industry to enhance rapid industrial uptake of innovative functional textile structures and textile related materials in a mondial market

From 01/01/2012 to 31/12/2015.

2BFUNTEX will exploit the untapped potential in functional textile structures and textile related materials. It will bring together all innovation actors in the field fostering a multidisciplinary approach between universities, research institutes, SMEs (in textile 95% of the companies are SMEs) and sector associations. The 2BFUNTEX team will identify technological gaps and will eliminate barriers resulting in a faster industrial uptake of added value functional materials with new functionalities and improved performance and resulting in creation of new business worldwide.

FP7 - NMP - Nanopur

Development of functionalized nanostructured polymeric membranes and 
related manufacturing processes for water purification

From 01/05/2012 to 30/04/2015.

The NANOPUR-project aims at leveraging on promising bottom-up technologies to develop intensified water treatment concepts based on nano-structured and nano-functionalized membranes as well as nanofilm deposition for micropollutants and virus removal.

FP7 - KBBE - Succipack

Development of active, intelligent and sustainable food packaging using polybutylene succinate.

From 01/01/2012 to 31/12/2014.

SUCCIPACK aims to support European industry efforts to introduce biobased polybutylene succinate (PBS) as a new material on the food packaging market.

Vito is responsible for the atmospheric plasma surface activation of the packaging material before coating. The coating is applied to improve the barrier properties.
